WINERY & VINEYARD

BESOAIN estate

Winery and Vineyard

As we have a raw product of the highest quality at our disposal, we are dedicated to producing a Cabernet Sauvignon Wine with authentic Maipo Andes Terroir. Its personality reflecting not only the characteristics of the vineyard, but also the influence of the seasonal conditions as well as the craftmanship, all of which made it possible.

BESOAIN Winery and Vineyard are situated on a terrace 200m above and south east of the Maipo river banks in the Los Morros region.

ABOUT US

Miguel BESOAIN, an enologist and a wine entrepreneur. After graduating from the University of Burgundy, France, he spent ten years working on vineyards in France and Germany. In 2010 he returned to Chile with his wife Alexandra and children to continue a project, which Miguel’s father began in 1990 planting the first vineyards.

We established a production of high-quality Cabernet Sauvignon. For this we use grapes exclusively from our own vineyard. The wine making takes place exclusively in our cellar. This way it is possible to guarantee complete responsibility for each and every step of the production – from the cultivation of the vineyard, the wine making, right through to the delivery of the bottled end product to our customers.

Each and every wine year brings forth its own distinctive character due to the quality of the grapes, to the management of our vineyard including our hand harvesting at the optimum moment of the grape maturity and to our personal wine making in our own cellar.
The traditional European method of fermentation in French oak barrels is complemented by the use of small machinery of the most modern technology in the wine making process.

To ensure quality, the wines are neither clarified nor filtered.

The entire process involves no services beyond our own vineyard and wine cellar. The complete production as well as bottling and labelling takes place on site using our own technology.

We believe that no wine should be forced onto the market in haste. On the contrary, we allow the wine a second “rest period” in the bottle following the maturing period in the barrels before putting the wine on the market.

The Vineyards

The semiarid Mediterranean climate is responsible for stable and optimum weather conditions with high sunshine hours during the ripening period. The northwest angle of the vineyard is responsible for even longer sunshine hours. Due to the Maipo river and the cool winds from the Andes the night temperatures drop on an average from 28 °C during the day to 10 – 12 °C at night.
These conditions are ideal for the process making the use of pesticides unnecessary.
Because of previous Forestry studies Miguel BESOAIN manage the barrel production at each step.

The Soil

The soil consists mainly of geological formation of colluvial sediment, which comes from the bordering hills in the south. In addition stony parts appear in varying amounts and depths in various parts of the vineyard. The sediments of round ground stones came originally from the terrace that once was part of the Maipo river bed. The fine shingle in the soil improves its porosity and has a very positive influence on the development of the roots of the vines.
Many different micro-Terroirs developed as a consequence of the complex history of the origin of the soil. In order to exploit this natural phenomena, we create many different micro-vinifications so that at the time of the final barrel’s blending we can select a variety of components to create a Cabernet Sauvignon wine with a unique personality reflecting the diverse features of its origin.
